Theme is an important message or idea that is found within a story. Often the theme of a story is implied. This means it is not directly stated. Two people can read the same story and find different themes. Below is a list of books other seventh graders have enjoyed. If there isn't a book on the list that interests you, it is fine to read a different novel, as long as it is parent approved.

Assignment
As you read, think about the possible message the author might be trying to send. Is the author suggesting that honesty is always the best policy? Do you think the author is sending a message about the importance of taking care of the planet? Is he/she highlighting the importance of friendship? We will be discussing theme during the first few weeks of school. It may be helpful to jot down information about your novel as you read, but there is no formal written assignment. Have a great summer, and enjoy your book!
